James Copen, Sr.

James Clinton Copen, Sr. 75, of Mount Vernon, died at 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at his residence.

He was born March 28, 1949, in Saint Clair County, to the late James Edward and Cherlene Palma (Wallace) Copen.

Mr. Copen is survived by the mothers of his children, Mildred Motes of Waltonville, and Linda Debeaux of Marble Hill, Missouri; children, Bonnie Green of Mount Dora, Florida, Christina Wolf of Mount Vernon, Kathleen Bryant of Dix, James Copen, Jr of Jefferson City, Missouri, Patti Copen of Missouri, and Palma Copen-Skaggs of Marble Hill, Missouri; step daughter, Rebecca Phillips of Waltonville; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mr. Copen proudly served his country in the United States Army. He loved rock n roll and Elvis. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, and muscle cars and will be missed.

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on May 17, 2024, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.
