George Shook

George William Shook, 78, of Mount Vernon, died at 11:51 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2024, at SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mount Vernon.

He was born Dec. 10, 1945, in Elsnor, Missouri to the late Paul and Della (Davis) Shook. He married Kathleen (Hill) Shook on Sept. 21, 1963.

In addition to his beloved wife of sixty years, Mr. Shook is survived by his sons, Michael Shook of Bloomington and George Shook III of Mount Vernon; daughter, Diana Ramsey of Walnut Hill; 10 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; brother, Paul Shook; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Shook proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He retired after twenty-seven years of service. Mr. Shook is a member of Mount Vernon Baptist Temple and he taught Sunday School for many years.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on May 22, 2024, at Newell Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, with Rev. Ron Reynolds and Rev. Tim Reynolds officiating. A graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. on May 22 at Mount Zion Cemetery in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Interment will follow.

Friends may call from 9 to 11 a.m. on May 22 at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made in Mr. Shook’s honor to Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
