CENTRALIA — On Saturday, the Centralia Moose Lodge hosted a family fun day festival at the Central City Lions Park. The goal was to help raise proceeds for the community and a new building for the Moose.
Central City Mayor Neely Reed said that this is the first significant event that the park has seen in two years.
“We were planning on doing something before the Moose came to the village about the event,” Reed told the Sentinel. “We just want to bring the community together, whether it’s the city doing it, the Moose or anyone else; I’m happy to see the community getting out here and coming together.”
The event lasted a total of 12 hours and included a variety of activities, vendors and food trucks. Patrons participated in a bag tournament, a cake walk, a silent auction, a bike raffle, a basket raffle and more. Activities for children included carnival games and bounce houses. Patrons also had the opportunity to enjoy some live entertainment by DJ Tony Waters and “Threes a Crowd.”
Newly appointed Centralia Moose club president, Tom Palazzolo, said that this is the first event of its kind that the club has hosted. He said that the idea came from club member Beverly Mansker, who wanted to bring the community together for a day of fun. Palazzolo said that he hopes to do the event again in the future.
“I think we will do a few things differently, but I think we will do this again,” Palazzolo said. “Everyone seems to be having a lot of fun.”
Palazzolo and the Centralia Moose chapter thanked Central City for helping with the event and several area first responders, including LifeStar, United Medical Response and the Centralia Fire Department for attending the event.
“We also want to thank Butch Mathus, the mayor of Wamac,” Centralia Moose club member and treasuer Brandi King said. “He provided the children with free train rides on the Little Toot train.”
Mayor Mathus and Mayor Reed are continually involved in the Moose Club and frequently help each other with such events.
The Moose family fair is one of many fundraisers that the Moose has, and will host, to raise proceeds for their efforts.
“The mission of the Moose is to support our children, our seniors and our community,” King said. “Proceeds from events like this allow us to give back to the community and support our efforts.”
Centralia Moose Lodge’s next fundraiser will be a taco night that will take place at the Industrial Tavern in Wamac Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m.
