Youth and adults enjoy sledding on Stover’s Hill
By JO ALLEN
CENTRALIA — Dozens of families took to the hills Sunday and Monday, after a winter storm blew in a blanket of snow that started early Sunday morning. Children and their parents gathered on Stover’s Hill in Centralia to enjoy an all too rare winter event.
On Sunday, a mix of sleet and more than six inches of snow resulted in slick and dusty white stuff, perfect for winter activities, especially sledding. Many children had been taking advantage of this winter event during their last days of winter break, which was extended a couple of extra days due to road conditions.
According to the Griffen family, who got up early Monday morning to take to Stover’s Hill all by themselves, they decided to wake up early to get some good sledding in.
Jayda Miller said that they wanted to beat the crowd.
“The kids are having so much fun out in the snow,” Miller said. “I said, why don’t we get down there early before everyone else, so (that) we had the hill all to ourselves. You never know when you’re going to get the opportunity again, with how unpredictable the weather, is and we don’t know if there will be school tomorrow, so (we) might as well.”
And the family did just that, having finished up just after 10 a.m.
