During the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday at Gilead United Methodist church, Pastor, the Rev. Joey Rhodes and the congregation will celebrate Thanksgiving. Members and visitors are encouraged to wear Pilgrim attire in black and white clothing or Native American outfits to honor the early pioneers and the support provided by the Indians to sustain their survival, shared the church. The Rev. Rhodes will present his seasonal Thanksgiving message which focuses on gratitude, often emphasizing that God is the source of all good things and that thankfulness should be expressed in all circumstances, including hardships. Pastor Rhodes introduces challenging themes that include being thankful for spiritual blessings like salvation and purpose, recognizing God’s provision, and translating that thankfulness into a lifestyle of service and love towards others. Biblical passages such as 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and Ephesians 5:20 highlight the command to be constantly thankful for everything.
In addition, Pastor Rhodes will provide a brief narrative introduction for the upcoming Christmas Advent calendar and final celebration to be held Dec. 21.
The Gilead congregation and Pastor Rhodes joyfully welcomed former pastor the Rev. Mark Myers and his wife Nancy last week to the worship service. The Rev. Myers led the church in the Lord’s Prayer. Myers retired after recently serving as Gilead’s pastor. Gilead Church was founded in 1866.
The liturgy service will be led by Lay Leader and Liturgist Cindy Jones. Other members will assist in the interactive service. The Homily and Lord’s Prayer service is led by Scotty Boyce. The offering prayer will be provided by Ralph Miller. Hymns will be performed by the church’s talented musician Dorothy Aydt. Church Ushers include Ralph Miller of Centralia. Acolytes are Tristin and Victoria Boyce, son and daughter of Scotty and Teresa Boyce.
The church is located a few minutes south of Centralia on Route 51 and turns at Country Bobs east on Base Line Road for 2 miles and then south to the church on Gilead Lane, with signs posted to assist motorists.
The church hosts a Facebook group called “Gilead United Methodist Church,” where a Podcast titled “Power Prayer” is held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays and currently Pastor Rhodes is hosting a Bible study of the 66 books of the Bible. This week, the Rev. Rhodes teaches about the Book of Ephesians. Sunday worship services are broadcast on the page at 9:15am.
Gilead United Methodist Church is an emotional support animal friendly church. The “little church with a big heart” welcomes everyone, shared the membership.
