Mt. Vernon capped a truncated Stovetop Stuffing Tournament with a 48-41 victory against Mascoutah on Saturday evening at Triad.
The Rams (2-0) were originally slated to play a pair of games on Saturday. The early afternoon matchup against Collinsville was canceled due to poor weather in the area.
Dave Barnes led the Rams with 21 points in the victory against the Indians, and Cale Maurer cracked double figures with 12. Other scorers for the Rams were: LJ Shelby seven, Eli Prost five, Kaden Wilson two and Chris Rudolph one.
Mascoutah led 8-7 after the opening period and took a 19-16 lead into halftime. The Rams claimed control at 33-29 going into the final quarter.
Maurer was named to the all-tournament team. Triad beat Collinsville 60-56 in the other matchup of the night.
The Rams will have a double home weekend coming up. Mt. Vernon hosts Carbondale to open South Seven Conference action on Friday. The Rams remain at home for a Saturday contest against Alton in their annual shootout.
