CARLYLE — The Carlyle City Council Monday entered executive session and accepted the resignation of Carlyle Chief of Police Mark Pingsterhaus. Pingsterhaus was also removed as a signatory.
Pingsterhaus has been the Carlyle Police Chief since 2012, succeeding former Police Chief Kent Newkirk. Pingsterhaus has 25 years of law enforcement experience and graduated from the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, in 2023.
On November 19, 2025, the City of Carlyle was notified by the FBI of an investigation being conducted at the Carlyle Police Department.
On November 20, 2025, Pingsterhaus was put on paid suspension until further notice by the City of Carlyle.
At the November 25 Carlyle City Council meeting, the council appointed Jason Herzing as Temporary Police Chief. Herzing has been with the Carlyle Police Department since 2015.
Also on Monday, the council approved the machinery and equipment insurance quote from The Cincinnati Insurance Company. The quote was approved for $132,646.
The council also approved the treasurer’s report. The total funds as of November 30, 2025, were $13,537,723.83. The beginning balance in the general fund was $3,516,059.09. Disbursements were $178,835.99, and receipts were $283,990.12.
