Faith Lutheran Church of Mt. Veronn 2026 church officers are installed by Pastor Joseph Nehring.
Faith Lutheran Church (LCMS) of Mount Vernon gathers for a 9:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. This Sunday, Jan. 11, is the Festival of the Baptism of Our Lord.
Pastor Joseph Nehring will be guiding the congregation through Divine Service One from the Lutheran Service Book. The opening hymn for the morning will be “Thy Strong Word.” The ESV Readings for the service start with the First Reading of Isaiah 42:1-9 and The Epistle Reading is Romans 6:1-11. The Holy Gospel Reading will be from Matthew 3:13-17. In this reading we learn of Jesus’s baptism and how John felt that Jesus should be baptizing him instead of himself baptizing Jesus. Matthew 3:15-17—But Jesus answered him, “Let it be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he consented. And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and coming to rest on him; and behold a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”
In the LCMS (Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod) we baptize babies and children believing it is commanded by God and not of human works, shared the church. The baptism involves sponsors nurturing the baptized child’s faith, makes them members of the Church and heirs of heaven. A sign of the cross is given as a mark of Christ’s redemption, with white garments symbolizing being clothed in Christ’s righteousness.
The sermon hymn will be “To Jordan Came the Christ, Our Lord.” Donna Beehn will sing the Communion hymn, “Draw Near and Take the Body of the Lord.” Pat Carlson will play the organ for all the hymns and throughout the Divine Service One as needed. The closing hymn for the Sunday morning service will be “Precious Lord, Take My Hand.”
Bible study will be held in the Faith Living Center with refreshments. Pastor Joseph Nehring invites the congregation to attend. He will answer questions about his sermon and the readings. The group will be discussing the chapters read by their participation of the “Bible in One Year” with Chad Bird a Scholar-in-Residence at 1517 a non-profit organization.
The Bible group will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday to view more of the movie “The Chosen.” Refreshments will be served.
The Board of Directors will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 15. This meeting will be the first meeting of the newly elected 2026 members installed this past Sunday.
Pastor Joseph Nehring encourages Faith Lutheran Church members and visitors from the community to attend Sunday worship services and Bible studies.
