WOODLAWN — A 36-year-old Woodlawn man was arrested on Thursday, Jan. 8, on a charge of possession of child pornography, stemming from a Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office investigation.
Marcus W. Leyva, the suspect, was taken to the Jefferson County Jail and incarcerated to await his pretrial detention hearing. Formal charges in this case are under review by the Jefferson County State’s Attorney’s Office. Information was not available Friday regarding any initial court dates.
According to a JCSO news release, a criminal complaint was made at the sheriff’s office at around 11:55 a.m. on Jan. 8 regarding allegations of child pornography. JCSO detectives were notified and continued the investigation, resulting in contact with the primary suspect, Leyva.
The investigation allegedly resulted in evidence being collected and the arrest of Leyva on a charge of possession of child porn, the release states.
Officials say that the investigation is ongoing and additional criminal charges could be filed.
