Makenley Williams
MOUNT VERNON — Mount Vernon Township High School student Makenley Williams hopes to take part in an exciting international exchange program, but she needs a little help from the local business community.
Williams has the chance to represent her school and community by traveling to France, Germany and the Alps as part of an international educational and cultural exchange program. However, the travel costs for each student is around $5,000. For that reason, she is seeking sponsorship and support from Mount Vernon area businesses.
“This experience will allow me to broaden my perspective, immerse myself in new cultures and build valuable leadership skills,” Williams said. “I will have the chance to visit historical landmarks, connect with students abroad and bring back knowledge and experiences that will benefit not only myself but also my peers and community.”
Williams continued, “However, this journey comes with significant costs, including travel, accommodations, meals and program fees. To make this dream a reality, I am seeking sponsorship and support from community businesses like yours. By sponsoring me, you will be directly investing in a young student’s future, helping me gain experiences that will last a lifetime.”
To help offset the travel costs, local students are conducting a number of fundraisers, including an MVTHS Travel T-shirt that the students will be wearing on the flights to and from Europe. The front of the shirts will have the Travel logo and the back will have all of the generous sponsors listed. Sponsors’ font size will depend on the donation amount, so the larger the donation, the bigger the name will appear, Williams said.
“Any contribution, big or small, will make a meaningful difference,” Williams said. “Donations can be made in the form of financial support or resources that may assist in my travels. Thank you for considering being part of this life-changing opportunity. Your support will not only help me achieve my goals, but will also inspire me to give back to my community in the future.”
Williams currently is an MVTHS freshman. The travel dates for the exchange program are July 6 to 14, 2027.
