Centralia High School students participated in the High School Art Competition held recently at Belleville’s Art on the Square. The best high school art from some of the largest metro east and Southern Illinois high schools was on display for the public. “CHS students won all top five awards in unprecedented fashion,” shared the school. “This is an amazing honor and recognition for the hard work and dedication our students have put into their craft.” CHS students honored works include, PICTURED ABOVE, FROM LEFT, Larissa Hensley won Award of Excellence, Artist’s Choice, People’s Choice and the Bill Evans Memorial Award for her scratchboard work titled “Going for a Swim; Meredith May won Best in Show, Artist’s Choice and People’s Choice for her graphite work titled “Sticky Situation”; and Zoe Dodd won an Award of Excellence for her pastel work titled “Sugar Rush.” Pictured BELOW, Awards of Excellence were also earned by CHS artists Caleb Martin for his pastel work titled “Scintillating Serpent” and Lucy Britt for her oil work titled “Emerging from the Static.” Patrons, artists and local leaders evaluated and honored the works of students from Belleville, Freeburg, Edwardsville, Breese, Centralia, Marion and Bluford high schools. The artists received monetary awards and ribbons.
