MOUNT VERNON — A Celebration of Life was held recently in honor of Ret. Sheriff Roger Mulch at the State Capitol in Springfield.
Ret. Sheriff Mulch passed away on April 20, 2022, and his tenure with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office ran from 1980 to 2014. He served three terms as Jefferson County Sheriff.
After ending his career as the President of the Illinois Sheriff’s Association in 2014, Ret. Sheriff Mulch went on to serve the Chicagoland area until his passing. He leaves behind wife, Shelly Mulch, their daughter Avery and siblings Kylee and Klarc.
Ret. Sheriff Mulch’s impressive career spanned from 1980 to 2022, and his most honorable career title was as President of the Illinois Sheriff’s Association in 2014.
Shelly Mulch proudly announced on Wednesday, Nov. 16, that a House Joint Resolution was passed in the Illinois House of Representatives. It was proposed in the resolution to designate the section of Interstate 64 in Jefferson County as the “Sheriff Roger Mulch Memorial Highway.”
“We understand he touched the lives and hearts of many throughout his lifetime, especially his career,” Shelly Mulch stated in a news release. “In lieu of a public service, per Roger’s request, the family has created a trust. All contributions will go directly towards the care and education cost of his daughter, Avery, who is just 4 years old.”
Those who would like to show their respects can donate to the Avery Mulch Trust. They can make a contribution at any Chase bank to the “Avery Mulch Trust” or by Zelle account at Trustofaverymulch@gmail.com. You can also make donations via mail at: Avery Mulch, 4200 Conestoga Drive, Ste 102 MBN 152, Springfield, IL 62711.
“Our family is beyond grateful for all the support you’ve shown us during this difficult time,” Shelly Mulch stated in the release. “We will update you when the sign is erected along Interstate 64.”
